September 10 is the World Suicide Prevention Day. Every time Kaunas City Municipality Public Health Bureau prepares original social initiatives, it presents a monthly program of events. Its purpose is to encourage people to seek help more courageously in the face of withdrawal thoughts. The month dedicated to suicide prevention was culminated on September 26, 2019 in co-operation with the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences and Rotary International District 1462 in a conference-forum “Addiction Problems in Suicide Prevention”. Professionals from all backgrounds who deal with addicts or at risk of suicide was invited to attend the event. Please find a program of the Conference-Forum (in Lithuanian language only).
“The topic of suicide has long been taboo. You want her to be remembered for more than just September. Therefore, the cycle of our events will expand a little longer this year as well. Each initiative is aimed at bringing community members together, stopping the stigma of suicide, increasing public openness and awareness of free help. In addition, the continuous sharing of experience contributes to a more effective network of mutual assistance and strengthens cooperation between professionals from different fields” L. Pranckevičiūtė from Kaunas City Municipality Public Health Bureau reported. RI District 1462 Rotary Foundation chair Virginijus Kontrimas took part in the Conference-Forum, presented activities of the Lithuanian Rotarians on the topic of Suicide prevention, among others deeper about Global Grant project “Suicide Prevention Model and its Application in the Municipalities of Lithuania” results.
